Hey guys,
We were just wondering if you know where we can get some regulation (Vex approved) non-slip pads. We noticed that you had them on your list of required parts. We’d really appreciate it if you helped us out!

This is Michael Chang, student website administrator for Team #481 from Thornlea Secondary School. (I don’t think we have a name yet, we just call ourselves “Thornlea Robotics”.) Thank you for your comment[1] on our website!
As far as we know, any non-slip pad up to 12″ by 15″ (about 30cm by 38cm) can be used, so long as no other rules are violated in the process, as a “non-stick pad” is one of the “additional parts” allowed in rule b for Quad Quandary this year[2][3].
We currently are using a pad that was purchased at Home Depot. I am not particularly sure what kind of pad it is. (I have CCed the member who bought the pad, Jonathan, who should be able to tell you what kind it is.) Please note that we haven’t actually BEEN in a competition yet, so we can’t guarantee that pad is “legal”, although we think it is close, if not identical, to one of the official ones.
Although there are official Vex pads available, I don’t know if they can be found locally. The rules do, however, allow one to use “identical” parts, even if they are not Vex parts per se, so the challenge is figuring out exactly what kind of part the official Vex parts are, and then finding a local equivalent. (Apparently some place called “McMaster-Carr” is supposed to also have these non-stick pads[4].)
For what it’s worth, the “FIRST Forums (First Tech Challenge Board)” link on our website[5] should point to forums where you can post questions regarding rule clarification. We haven’t posted any questions yet, so we don’t know how long it takes for a question to be answered.
This reply was also sent via e-mail to the e-mail address provided when the comment was made.
If you find a better answer to your question, or if you have any other tips, questions, or comments, please feel free to make further comments on our website[5].

P.S. I personally watched some of the afternoon matches at the Ontario Science Centre on Saturday, and was very impressed by your team’s spirit. ^_^”
